NSS & Extension Unit
Introduction:
The National Service Scheme (NSS) & Extension Unit of Mahatma Jyotiba Fule College of Social Work, Yavatmal, stands as an integral pillar of the institution’s commitment to fostering social responsibility and holistic student development. Established in 2010, the unit commenced its journey with a sanctioned strength of 50 student volunteers, dedicated to bridging the gap between the campus and the community.
Over the years, reflecting the increasing dedication of our students and the expanding scope of our outreach activities, the unit has grown significantly. In strict accordance with the guidelines prescribed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and our affiliating university, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University (SGBAU), the unit’s strength has now been officially enhanced to 100 student volunteers.
Vision: To cultivate a youth with the mindset and spirit to serve society and contribute to the betterment of marginalized communities as a movement.
Mission: To inspire youth through community service and use community service to enhance education, reflecting the motto “NOT ME BUT YOU”. An NSS volunteer places the ‘community’ before ‘self’
Aim: – Development of the personality of college students through community service.
Objectives:
- understand the community in which they work
- understand themselves in relation to their community
- identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving
- develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
- utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems
- develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities
- gain skills in mobilising community participation
- acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes
- develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and
- practise national integration and social harmony
